Scenic Drives

-
Catalina Highway is among the most beautiful scenic drives in the country, beginning in saguaro-laden desert landscape, winding and weaving its way through the Santa Catalina mountains. The geology and plant life change as you make the way up the mountain, from rolling hills dotted with cacti to jagged peaks and precarious hoodoos blanketed in oaks, aspens, pines, and ferns at various elevations, As you near the summit, you’re enveloped within the dense pine and conifer wonderland of Coronado National Forest in Summerhaven, the cozy town atop the mountain, and Ski Valley, home to the southernmost ski lift in the continental United States.
-
Following Speedway Boulevard to the West of town, Speedway becomes Gates Pass Road, a winding road that snakes through an impressive mountain pass, with towering peaks
-
A little ways outside of Tucson, taking State Route AZ-83 to Sonoita, then AZ-82 to Patagonia, the road leads you across rolling hillsides, through grazing pastures, and into Southern Arizona's lovely wine country, with vineyards, ranches, even a lake tucked in between the mountains outside of Patagonia.
Some vineyard information can be found here. Patagonia Lake State Park official website here.
